Elite Myotherapy – Leading Myotherapists of Melbourne

Myotherapy (muscular therapy) is the assessment of muscular injury and dysfunction, the application of various physical therapies to treat pain and the rehabilitation of the soft tissue and underlying causes. These underlying causes may have symptoms such as general aches and pains, headaches, neck or back pain, joint stiffness, neurological symptoms or reduced flexibility.

Myotherapy treatments decrease pain and improve physical mobility and ability through improved muscular strength and flexibility, and correct body function. Myotherapists assess all affected muscles, ligaments and tendons for healthy body function, correcting movement dysfunctions which may prevent the recovery of an injury or lead to a reoccurrence.

What to expect from Myotherapy Treatment

In your initial consultation we strive to gain an understanding of relevant lifestyle factors which may have contributed to your discomfort, including occupational, recreational such as activities, diet and past injuries.
A physical assessment is conducted to determine which treatment is most suitable for your condition. This assessment may include;
  • Physical Examination
  • Range of Motion Testing
  • Postural Assessment
  • Orthopedic Assessment
  • Neurological Testing
  • Active Palpation
  • Passive Palpation
A personalised treatment plan will be formulated, detailing your future treatments, corrective exercises to be undertaken at home and advice on managing your discomfort and improving your condition.

An initial consultation will take up to 75 minutes, including treatment which may involve a combination of the following:
  • Manual soft tissue techniques - such as myofascial release and deep tissue massage. These release any muscular shortness, tightness, knots and adhesions.
  • Trigger Point Therapy - this treats tight areas of muscle tissue and prevents them from causing pain and in other parts of your body, and causing other parts of your body to compensate for the inflamed areas weakness.
  • Dry needling - the use of acupuncture needles into restricted/injured muscle tissue
  • Muscle stretching
  • TENS therapy - the use of a light electrical current for muscle stimulation
  • Postural corrective exercises - strengthening or stretching exercises to be undertaken at home/work
  • Hot and Cold Therapy - Heat therapy can provide timely relief for minor stiffness or tension. Cold therapy (Cryotherapy) is used for reducing inflammation and swelling by reducing blood flow to the affected area surrounding a joint or tendon.

Benefits of Myotherapy

Our patients seek myotherapy to treat a particular ailment, and complete their treatment as a more energetic, stronger and happier person. When one area of your body is out of sync, it can affect other areas, so by fixing these problems we improve our patient’s quality of life in numerous areas.

Everyday activity such as prolonged sitting at a desk, bending over, heavy lifting and repetitive movements can not only misalign your back, but cause other areas such as your neck, shoulders and wrists to be inflamed. Our patients are often note that their posture feels more aligned, lower back tightness has reduced, and muscular pain and stiffness has disappeared. This enables improvements in flexibility, strength and energy levels.

The massage therapy used in myotherapy has been found to reduce stress levels, blood pressure and hypertension. Reducing stress leads to an improved quality of sleep and immunity levels.

Myotherapy offers safe and beneficial treatment for women during pregnancy. During pregnancy your body undergoes hormonal, mental and physical changes. These changes impact posture, weight bearing joints, tension throughout the body, hormone levels and stress. We provide a caring and considerate environment where you will feel at ease during your treatment.

You’ll also be happy to know that myotherapy is a natural treatment, eliminating the need for medication or surgery for many patients.
