Tennis Elbow Treatment
Lateral epicondylitis, or as it is commonly referred to “tennis elbow” is an overuse injury caused by inflammation at the elbow, where the tendons of the forearm extensor muscles insert into the humerus.
Repetitive movements such as gripping tools or a racquet cause stress to be placed on these tendons, which may result in small tears in these soft tissue structures.
Our caring and caring approach will reduce tennis elbow pain and provide you with the necessary rehabilitation to reduce the likelihood of repeat injuries.
Symptoms of Tennis Elbow include
- Pain in the elbow joint, especially when straightening the arm
- Dull ache when at rest
- Pain when opening the fingers
- Soreness around the affected elbow
- Weak grip
- Difficulties and pain when trying to grasp objects, especially with the arm stretched out.
Treatment for Tennis Elbow includes
- Soft tissue massage
- Dry needling
- Joint mobilisation
- Flexibility and strengthening exercise prescribed by your Elite Myotherapist
- Electrotherapy modalities such as TENS
- Prescribing the right strengthening or stretching exercises to aid recovery
Our patients often experience inflammation, muscle tightness and knots which we treat through a process of gentle massage, treatment and rehabilitation.
Through Myotherapy, our initial aim is to reduce the pain and tenderness so that you can continue your day-to-day activities without difficulty. Your massage therapist will use gentle massage techniques to reduce the knots in your muscles and trigger points which attach to the outside point of the elbow. We also treat the muscles close to the elbow, such as the tricep, to further reduce tightness and knots.
This is then followed up with Dry Needling throughout your forearm muscles and elbow. Our patients find Dry Needling to provide efficient healing and pain relief, as it can gently reach the deepest muscle fibres and reduce sensitivity the area.
Over time we introduce isometric exercises to increase your forearm strength and range of motion while taking care not to re-aggravate the injury. Increasing strength is a key part of tennis elbow treatment and rehabilitation, for the prevention for future injuries.
